Craftsman Tools' Apprentice School Grows Again
Craftsman Tools’ Award winning Apprentice Training School continues to grow in the depth and variety of machines available for the company’s developing engineers. We’ve recently added a XYZ 1020 Vertical Milling Centre with rotating B-Axis which will enable the apprentices to better replicate the products and procedures undertaken in the rest of the factory.
Apprentice Training Officer Graham Newall comments; “It’s important that we train our apprentices on modern and advanced machinery once they have become competent in the basics. Adding these machines to the training school means that the apprentices can add real value to the company as soon as possible because these are the styles of machines we use every day. We can also spend the time with dedicated trainers to explore and research new manufacturing techniques that production machines are unable to get involved in.”
The XYZ 1020 joins two Doosan Puma Lathes and an Agie Charmilles 440cc EDM wire machine as advanced CNC machines for our second year apprentices to train on and produce more and more complex parts.
Craftsman Tools’ Apprentice Training school is in the third year of its operation and has seen real benefits companywide. Our third year apprentices are now operating full production machines under guidance from experienced machinists and producing quality products day in and day out. We are very excited to see how the scheme develops over the next few years as the first group come to the end of their apprenticeships with an exceptionally strong skill set.
